Wine Enthusiast

Bougros produces rich wines, and this wine comes from the extra-ripe vineyard at the base of the slope. It is generous, giving a weighty character with the flavors plumbing the depths of richness. On top, a beautiful, almost sweet acidity leaves a fresh feeling in the mouth.

Vinous

Very pale yellow with a faint green tinge. Lime zest, white flowers and white pepper on the bright, high-pitched nose. Sappy, ripe and substantial, showing sexy sweetness of fruit in a technically very dry wine. Superb acidity and energy here, but not as tightly wound as the Preuses. The full south exposure of the vines gives this wine its amplitude and generosity. As with the regular Bougros, this large-scaled, long wine is not at all hard or austere.

Once again, based on the nose alone, this could be nothing else but Chablis with its mélange of tidal pool, mineral reduction, citrus blossom and discreet spice nuances. There is fantastic detail to the focused, mineral-driven and powerful middle weight plus flavors that do a slow build from the mid-palate all the way back to the explosively long, balanced and bone dry finish. This appears to be drawn directly from liquid Kimmeridgian and should also amply reward longer-term cellaring. In a word, brilliant. 96/2026+

Melon, apple, stone, seashore and earth aromas and flavors ride the vivid structure, finishing long. A grapefruit peel note lingers. Shows some flesh, too, delivering terrific balance and drive.

View From the Cellar

Given how superb the 2015 “regular” Bougros is this year from Domaine Fèvre, I have very high expectations for the Côte de Bouguerots and they were not disappointed! The bouquet is deep, complex and very refined, delivering a fine constellation of green apple, pear, lime, crystalline, chalky minerality, spring flowers and a bit of flintiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is very pure, full-bodied and utterly svelte in profile, with a rock solid core, great cut and grip and outstanding focus on the long, pure and seamlessly balanced finish.

Very pale yellow. Very ripe but vibrant nose combines lime, spices, white pepper, crushed rock and liquid minerals. Delivers a saline, sappy combination of rich peachy fruit and floral/mineral lift, with a remarkably weightless quality. The chewy, saline, bone-dry finish reinforced by minerality conveys a powerful impression of dry extract and Kimmeridgian soil. Really inexorable on the back end.

On the austere side, this white exhibits flavors of green apple, lemon and grass, with hints of stone. Racy and firm, with a mouthwatering essence.

Vinous

Very pale lemon-yellow. Vibrant aromas of white peach, grapefruit, lemon and crushed stone. Bigger and sweeter than the Vaulorent, showing grand cru weight but not quite the same energy or cut as the premier cru. This very backward, saline wine communicates an impression of strong dry extract and citrus thrust. The yield here was at least 40 hectoliters per hectare in 2014, according to Séguier.

This is a fabulous white wine with dried apple, mango and mineral plus hints of hazelnut. Full body, bright acidity and a long, dry finish. What a white.
