(from domaine fruit in Les Grands Liards and Roichottes). A similar if even earthier nose leads to attractively intense and well-delineated middle weight flavors that possess good volume and a lovely underlying tension before terminating in a beautifully refreshing and moderately firm finish where the supporting tannins are actually relatively fine. This is a lovely Savigny villages and worth checking out.

Cherry and berry notes tread softly in this gentle red. Approachable and nicely balanced, with enough grip to age for 10 years. Earth and mineral accents emerge on the long finish.

Soft wood combines with cool and pure but decidedly ripe red and dark pinot fruit, spice and marked earthy nuances. The delicious and round medium weight flavors are quite generously proportioned with an opulent mid-palate and much better concentration, all wrapped in a lingering and nicely complex finale.

Brilliant magenta. Mineral-accented red berries, incense and candied flowers on the expansive, seductively perfumed nose, with a spicy accent adding vivacity. Sappy, alluringly sweet and sharply delineated on the palate, offering juicy cherry, raspberry preserve and lavender pastille flavors that are sharpened by a zesty Asian spice nuance. Fine-grained and seamless in texture, finishing extremely long and precise, with resonating spiciness and smooth, well-knit tannins.

Translucent ruby-red. Powerful red fruit liqueur, potpourri, incense and smoky mineral scents, along with hints of cola and exotic spices. Alluring sweet and animated on the palate, offering densely packed raspberry, boysenberry, spicecake, floral pastille flavors and a strong undercurrent of zesty minerality. Fine-grained tannins frame and shape a powerful, mineral-driven finish that lingers with superb persistence and mounting sweetness.

Veneroso 2013

The 2013 Veneroso is one of the most compelling wines I have tasted from Tenuta di Ghizzano. Powerful yet weightless, the 2013 presents a beguiling interplay between the aromatic lift of Sangiovese and the darker flavors the Cabernet Sauvignon adds. Sweet tobacco, licorice, dried herbs, tobacco and menthol wrap around the striking, delineated finish. The 2013 is 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sangiovese is so expressive here, I can only wonder what it might be like on its own.

Chockablock with blackberry, black currant and plum fruit, this brooding red also displays leather, earth and iron notes. Though dense, this offers vivid acidity that drives the long aftertaste.
