Premier Cru Meursault Genevrières 2014

Bright, light yellow. Peachy fruit salad, lavender and crushed stone on the vibrant nose and palate (very good choice of harvest date here!). Concentrated and sweet, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the wine. Strong mineral extract leads to a satisfyingly saline, fine-grained finish with noteworthy persistence. Tactile yet seamless wine with lovely balance and an element of power. But lay it down for a few years.

Vinous

Apple, spices and subtle smoky oak on the nose. Round, ripe flavors of peach and pear are lifted by a note of lime blossom. Good energy here from the higher-altitude parcel on chalkier soil. This wine normally shows more minerality with bottle aging, notes Weber, but it's already suave and fine-grained, with good inner-mouth lift. Among the higher-acid 2015 whites here, at 4.2 grams per liter.

2014 Meursault “Genevrières”: (from an incredible 2.7 ha parcel which makes Bouchard the largest owner, surpassing the 2.5 ha of Latour-Giraud). The pungent nose combines reduction and as yet unabsorbed sulfur so be sure to decant this if you’re going to open a bottle in the name of “science”. The palate impression of the wonderfully refined middle weight flavors manages to be at once notably rich while retaining good delineation while simultaneously delivering excellent depth and persistence on the well-balanced finale.

This white is Riesling-like, with apple, peach, floral, juniper and stone notes. Elegant yet intense, with a long, lingering aftertaste.

Broad and lightly ginger-spiced nose; faintly reduced too but it opens up with more and more sweetness. Big and modestly opulent in the mouth, but with enough acidity to support the richness and a lovely ginger-infused mid-palate flavor that is utterly delicious.

Premier Cru Meursault Perrières 2015

September 2016

Vinous

The rockiest nose so far of these 2015s, with complicating notes of citrus zest, pineapple and lime blossom. Fine-grained, nicely delineated and adamantly dry; a mineral bath in the mouth, with a repeating note of pineapple. Finishes with good tactile, dusty length and slightly elevated alcohol. These Meursault premier crus produced a maximum of 32 hectoliters per hectare in 2015, according to Weber.

Bright, light yellow. Deeply pitched nose offers fresh apricot, iodiney minerality and a complicating leesy nuance. A broad, fat, mineral bath on the palate, with its ripe, sweet peach flavor nicely countered by firm acidity. Less harmonious and smooth than the Genevrières today, this wine needs time to meld its sweet fruit elements and acidity. But the long, rising finish augurs well for longevity.

A briny, minerally note signals the aroma of this white, featuring lemon, apple and mineral flavors. Steely and intense, with a lingering finish. Elegant overall.
