Brut Rosé

Vinous

Vivid orange-pink. High-toned aromas of fresh red berries, smoky minerals and orange peel, with a hint of buttered toast emerging with air. Spicy raspberry and strawberry flavors are supported by a firm spine of acidity and a refreshingly bitter orange pith nuance. At once silky and bright on the long, penetrating finish, which leaves a sexy rose pastille nuance behind.

Baked peach, raspberry, honey, toast and almond flavors are rich and well-knit in this elegant rosé, riding a finely detailed mousse and backed by vibrant acidity. Chalk and smoke notes underscore the palate and linger on the expressive finish.

View From the Cellar

The new release of Henriot’s non-vintage Brut Rosé is a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay, with the exact cépages not given, but probably about fifty-five percent pinot and forty-five percent chardonnay. The wine is quite lovely, offering up an elegant bouquet of strawberries, tangerine, chalky minerality, fresh-baked bread and a topnote of rose petals. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, focused and nicely deep at the core, with refined mousse, bright acids and lovely focus and grip on the long and complex finish. This is really quite tasty.

Shows lovely balance, with a lacy texture and a fine frame of acidity enlivening the rich flavors of toasted brioche, baked plum, graphite, crystallized honey and ground anise. Offers a smoky, lingering finish.

A finely balanced and creamy Champagne. Smoky mineral and toast notes on the nose lead to flavors of crunchy white peach and lemon curd, with a green waft of spring blossom on the fresh palate.

Restaurant Wine

The Brut Souverain is remarkably good: both fresh and complex in character, it is medium bodied, crisp, well balanced, and fairly intense in flavor (apple, pineapple, peach, candied lemon, roasted nut), with a very long finish. Excellent!

This minerally Champagne is balanced and fresh, with a fine, lively bead and subtle flavors of Asian pear, pastry and pickled ginger. A light toastiness shows on the finish.

Le Pan

A rich, Chardonnay-driven blend that spends three years on the lees, this shows very pleasant floral notes, ripe apple and citrus fruit and a creamy texture and a soft yet lively mousse and good persistence.

James Suckling

A fresh, clean champagne with sliced apple, pear and lots of mineral character. Full to medium body, crisp acidity and a long finish. Lots of citrus undertones. Bright and steely. This is mostly 2009, with the remainder from reserve wines. Four years on the lees. This is very focused. 50% chardonnay and 50% pinot noir.
