Beaune Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus 2017

January 2019

91-93 Points

Vinous

The 2017 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jesus 1er Cru comes from the 3.91-hectare parcel on the mid-slope, currently undergoing piecemeal replanting. It has a wonderful, expressive bouquet of dark cherries, wild strawberry and crushed stone that is easily the best of Bouchard’s Beaune Premier Crus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and well-judged acidity, perhaps a little oakier than the Les Teurons but with more depth and precision on the finish. Great potential. –NM

Wine Enthusiast

This tight wine is firm with tannins and still very young. With a backdrop of dense black fruits and acidity, its potential is considerable. With this promise and richness, the wine needs aging. Drink from 2024. Maisons and Domaines Henriot. Cellar Selection.

James Suckling

A refined nose for Beaune with raspberry pastry and red cherries with a violet-flower edge. The palate has delicate and fine tannins with great structural integrity. The length and balance are very convincing. Approachable red fruit at the finish.

Remarkably and seamlessly complex, with a polished and refined core wrapped in silky raspberry and blueberry flavors, accented by savory spice and orange zest hints. The long finish builds toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2025.

A nicely captured reductive edge here, this holds white peach and apple aromas fresh with dried white flowers and a very gentle nutty, cashewy thread. The palate's bright, creamy and fruity; it throws big fruit flavors upwards with crunchy acidity. Drink now.

The bouquet offers up a classic blend of pear, lemon, chalky minerality, bread dough and a topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied and nicely focused, with refined mousse, lovely focus and balance and a long, zesty finish.

A markedly floral-infused nose offers up primarily notes of green apple and lemon zest along with background wisps of yeast and quinine. There is very good complexity to the vibrant, even racy flavors that possess a moderately fine effervescence before culminating in a crisp, moderately dry and citrusy finish. This is really quite good and I like the style.

Lightly toasty, with a hint of grilled nut lacing the poached apple, fleur de sel and lemon pastry cream notes. Fresh and balanced, with the fine mousse carrying the flavor range on the creamy finish.
