This white is Riesling-like, with apple, peach, floral, juniper and stone notes. Elegant yet intense, with a long, lingering aftertaste.

2014 Meursault “Genevrières”: (from an incredible 2.7 ha parcel which makes Bouchard the largest owner, surpassing the 2.5 ha of Latour-Giraud). The pungent nose combines reduction and as yet unabsorbed sulfur so be sure to decant this if you’re going to open a bottle in the name of “science”. The palate impression of the wonderfully refined middle weight flavors manages to be at once notably rich while retaining good delineation while simultaneously delivering excellent depth and persistence on the well-balanced finale.

Bright, light yellow. Peachy fruit salad, lavender and crushed stone on the vibrant nose and palate (very good choice of harvest date here!). Concentrated and sweet, with harmonious acidity giving shape to the wine. Strong mineral extract leads to a satisfyingly saline, fine-grained finish with noteworthy persistence. Tactile yet seamless wine with lovely balance and an element of power. But lay it down for a few years.

Lean and tight, with oak spice wrapped around a core of lemon, apple and stone flavors. Firms up in the end, yet shows the intensity and promise of things to come.

Vinous

Apple, spices and subtle smoky oak on the nose. Round, ripe flavors of peach and pear are lifted by a note of lime blossom. Good energy here from the higher-altitude parcel on chalkier soil. This wine normally shows more minerality with bottle aging, notes Weber, but it's already suave and fine-grained, with good inner-mouth lift. Among the higher-acid 2015 whites here, at 4.2 grams per liter.

They consistently excel in their Meursault. This magnificent Meursault Genevrières is a blend of two plots, totaling over 6-acres, that they own. One plot is lower down on brown soil, which imparts richness, according to their winemaker, Frédéric Weber, while the other is higher on white limestone. This is a fabulous Genevrières, delivering richness, spice and vivacity. From my experience with Bouchard’s wines, it will develop nicely for a decade, though it’s hard to resist now.

Broad and lightly ginger-spiced nose; faintly reduced too but it opens up with more and more sweetness. Big and modestly opulent in the mouth, but with enough acidity to support the richness and a lovely ginger-infused mid-palate flavor that is utterly delicious.
