Beaune Clos de la Mousse 2016

Wine Enthusiast

Ripe, juicy and packed with cherry fruits, this is a generous wine. It also has potential with its dense tannins and dry core. The wine needs time, so drink from 2023. Maisons and Domaines Henriot. Cellar Selection. —R.V.

Vinous

This is showing just a little reduction on the nose, yet there is plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with brown spices here that feels well defined. The poised, focused palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a caressing, almost Vosne-like finish that is utterly seductive. –NM

The nose has a very flamboyant feel with plenty of brambly, darker cherries and spices. The palate has a very pure feel with velvety tannins, carrying red to dark cherries.

A ripe, juicy version, beautifully integrated and unfolding cherry and currant flavors gracefully. Spice, earth and mineral notes chime in on the long finish.

Wine Advocate

Bouchard's 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse is showing well, offering up an attractive bouquet of smoky red berries, dried flowers, musk and bergamot. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, delicate and supple, with a pretty core of tangy fruit, powdery and largely melted tannins and a sapid, flavorful finish. This won't make old bones, but it's a charming Beaune 1er Cru from an overlooked vintage that's drinking well today.

Wine Advocate

From a site defined by deep clay-rich soils that resist hydric stress, the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse reveals lovely aromas of cherries, blackberries and forest floor, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and textural palate that's ripe but succulent. This is a gourmand, pleasure-bent Beaune that will offer a broad drinking window.

Bright, saturated dark red. Black cherry, wild herbs, licorice, mocha and spicy oak on the nose, along with a suggestion of dried berries. Sweet and full but with noteworthy sappiness to the red berry and cherry flavors. A ripe, sweet fruit bomb with round but firm tannins and lingering spices. These vines are planted along a north-south orientation, which protects them from the hottest midday sun.

Bright red-ruby. Sexy scents of red- and blackcurrant, iron and tobacco, plus a whiff of animal fur. At once sweet and salty, displaying a fine-grained texture to its black cherry fruit. I find this gentler and more velvety than the Beaune du Château, with sweeter tannins.

Black cherry and plum notes permeate this dense red, made approachable thanks to a round profile and open texture. Should be better in a year or two, but the lush fruit makes this enjoyable now.
