Grand Cru Montrachet 2014

2014 Montrachet: (from a .89 ha parcel of Puligny vines). Though there is a hint of unabsorbed SO2 present on the otherwise expressive and actually quite elegant nose that features notes of lemon rind, spiced pear, white peach and plenty of floral scents. The serious and striking rich flavors are imposingly scaled as well as impressively concentrated and while obvious overtly powerful, they are also seductively textured before culminating in an explosive yet impeccably well-balanced finish.

The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru is very well defined on the nose with Clementines, crushed stone, a touch of grapefruit and petrichor. It unfolds beautifully in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly waxy opening, a judicious touch of spice, quite tangy towards the finish with a long ginger-tinged aftertaste. Powerful.

Spicy and notably ripe yet fresh aromas of petrol, white peach and plenty of floral elements give way to slightly finer though less concentrated flavors that possess focused power and evident minerality on the compact, youthfully austere and more structured finale that flashed huge length. While qualitatively quite similar, the two wines offer distinctly different personalities.

This is still a bit closed on the nose, but on the palate it is rippling with ripe-apricot and orange character. Dense and rich, almost to the point of being unctuous, although this is properly dry. serious tannin structure behind the lavish exterior, which, together with the fresh acidity, keeps this on course through the very generous finish.

A smooth, creamy texture sets the pace for the peach, baked apple and spice flavors in this intensely flavored, integrated white. The bracing acidity emerges midpalate, and the finish belies this wine’s rich beginnings. Shows fine potential, with all the components set for a long evolution.

Wine Advocate

"Aromas of white flowers, fresh peach, toasted bread, mandarin oil and pastry cream introduce Bouchard's 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, layered and multidimensional wine that's deep and concentrated, with racy acids, terrific mid-palate amplitude and a long, saline finish. Broad shouldered and powerful without being at all overbearing, it's an exemplary rendition of this celebrated site." - William Kelley

There is a touch of phenolic character to the markedly floral-suffused aromas of poached apple, pear, white peach, exotic tea and fennel. There is again excellent volume and mid-palate density to the caressing but impressively powerful big-bodied flavors that retain superb focused on the bone-dry, moderately austere and hugely long finish.

Grand Cru Montrachet 2017

Wine Advocate

From a parcel sandwiched between the holdings of Ramonet and Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the 2017 Montrachet Grand Cru wafts from the glass with notes of oatmeal, lemon curd, ripe yellow orchard fruit and praline, subtly framed by new wood. On the palate, the wine is satiny, deep and complete, with a classily reserved profile that’s concealing impressive reserves of concentration and structure, underpinned by juicy acids. It’s a terrific Montrachet that may match the 2014 rendition.

Pale straw-yellow. Very reticent scents of peach, pear and spearmint are less forthcoming than those of the Chevalier-Montrachet bottlings. Fat, saline and slightly disjointed in the early going; in a very rich but adamantly dry style. Shows full ripeness supported by penetrating acidity but this infant is not yet expressive or particularly complex. Strong minerality and building acidity on the tactile back end will require time to harmonize with the wine's fruit.

Very ripe aromas and flavors of apple, pear, clove, cinnamon and musky white flowers, with a hint of iodiney minerality. Dense and thick on entry, but not at all heavy owing to enlivening spicy acidity. Weber finds this more expressive than the 2014 at the same stage but it's still a baby today, and rather wound up in spite of its richness.
