Spice and smoke aromas and flavors frame the wild cherry and berry fruit in this linear, intense red. There is a savage quality here, even to the tannins, which will need some time to be absorbed. The lengthy aftertaste evokes chalk and underbrush notes.
This red is marked by ripe, crunchy cherry and raspberry fruit, accented by rich loam and chalky mineral notes. Firm, yet balanced and long on the spice- and smoke-tinged aftertaste.

Sweet, dense and thick, but with excellent energy and a fine-grained texture giving the mid-palate a distinctly suave quality. A bit withdrawn in the middle but opens up and blossoms on the broad finish, which features noble tannins. This fruit was harvested at a ripe 12.5% potential alcohol and chaptalized to 13.2%.
The 2018 Le Corton Grand Cru is a particular success, revealing lovely aromas of orange rind, peonies, wild berries, grilled game and earthy forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegant and precise, with good concentration and a long, mineral finish. Weber opted to ferment the old-vine fruit from this climat with some 20% whole cluster.
(from east-facing vines at the top of the appellation, at an altitude of 300 meters; picked on September 10): Bright red-ruby. Medicinal scents of kirsch and licorice show a positive burnt note. Distinctly tighter and more clenched than the Pommard Rugiens, without the early pliancy of that wine but with terrific energy and clarity to its black fruit and licorice flavors. This very young, juicy, firmly tannic wine needs time to harmonize but has all the elements to make a superb bottle.

The 2017 Le Corton Grand Cru comes from 3.60 hectares at 280 meters above sea level, at the top of the slope, and is usually the last picked. It has an elegant, attractive bouquet of brambly red fruit, burned toast, truffle and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, fine tannin, well-judged acidity and a generous, sophisticated, lightly spiced finish. A very refined Le Corton and one of the best crus from Bouchard in 2017. –NM
