The stunning floral depth to the nose is very attractive here with plenty of roses and violets, as well as ripe red cherries. Very plush, long and layered tannin weave with an expressive, fleshy and round center. There’s softness, as well as a bit of cut from the 50 percent whole-cluster ferment.

A markedly spicy nose is again not super-fresh but neither are the aromas of plum, violet and Asian-tea dull. The middle weight flavors possess slightly better freshness than the nose while displaying lovely delineation on the stony and lightly austere finish where a hint of bitter cherry arises.

Vinous

(from south-facing vines on a steep chalky slope in the lieu-dit en Orveaux; harvested very early in 2015 and vinified with 40% whole clusters): Dark red with ruby tones. Medicinal aromas of black cherry, coffee and chocolate complicated by an enticing floral nuance. Very suave and smooth but not especially sweet, with its ripe chocolate cake and blackberry preserve flavors leavened by salty minerality and a strong impression of soil. More airy and energetic in the mouth than the Suchots despite its almost voluptuous texture. Finishes very long, with polished, late-arriving tannins.

Rich and succulent, offering cherry, raspberry, floral and spice aromas and flavors. Stylish, picking up a mineral element as this winds down on the long aftertaste. Fine balance.

A background application of wood does not interfere with the clear expression of the well-layered mix of various dark berry and plum scents that display top notes of spice and floral hints. There is good volume to the suave and seductive yet entirely serious middle weight plus flavors that quickly firm up before terminating in a wonderfully lingering finish. This is also blessed with plenty of dry extract that, like the Suchots, should allow it to drink well early if that’s your preference.

Deep red with ruby highlights. Aromas of redcurrant, chocolate and earth. Fat, silky and sweet, but with lovely sappy definition for such a lush, thick wine. Fine-grained, smooth and long on the aftertaste, but in need of time to express itself. Excellent potential here.
