Lemon, apple, mineral and floral notes mingle in this elegant white. The vivid structure keeps this focused and drives the long aftertaste.

View From the Cellar

The 2015 Montmains had only been assembled on the day prior to my visit to the domaine, but was still showing beautifully. The bouquet is quite minerally in profile (particularly for a 2015), wafting from the glass in a mix of apple, pear, white flowers, a touch of anise, complex minerality and white flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite racy, with a fine core, lovely focus and grip and a long, vibrant and complex finish. This is really good.

Wine Advocate

The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains comes from three parcels in Butteaux, Les Fôrets and Montmains. With 40% of the crop vinified and matured for 6 months in used oak, it has a strict and linear, oyster shell-tinged bouquet that is nicely defined. The palate is linear and strict with piercing acidity. This is very penetrating in the mouth, slightly saline with a tingle of lemongrass on the finish. This should be very fine once in bottle.

Pale lemon-green. Smells much more austere than the 2015. Suave and silky but very backward on the palate, conveying terrific limey lift to the highly concentrated flavors of dusty stone, menthol and metallic minerality. In a distinctly cool style and quite reduced today, this wine will need a few years in the bottle, or extended aeration, to show more precision and complexity. Tangy and brisk on the aftertaste.

Attractive toast aromas match
well with the buttery, ripe fruits. This is a generous wine, although one with a line of acidity and steeliness that gives a strong texture. At the end, lemon crispness and ripe honey go well together.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Ripe, expressive aromas of green apple, fresh apricot, menthol and white pepper. Densely packed and juicy, conveying lovely ripeness from a cool terroir, with excellent inner-mouth tension and precision. Finishes with noteworthy cut and length. In a distinctly cool style but not green.

Very impressive lime with mangoes, as well as white and yellow peach aromas. This has a superb palate with smooth flesh and sleek acidity. Nectarines to close. Really exotic, attractive fresh fruits and a long, fresh palate. A great and smooth-textured Chablis!

The restrained and equally pure nose offers up notes of smoky mineral reduction, floral, white peach and sea breeze that complement well the salty, intense and beautifully detailed flavors that exude plenty of minerality on the attractively dry, focused and impressively persistent finish. This is good stuff and I very much like the balance.
