Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre Domaine 2013

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Classic Chablis aromas of citrus peel and oyster-shell minerality. Supple, fine-grained and very harmonious, with firm minerality lending shape and finesse to the citrus and spice flavors. This is more Montée de Tonnerre than 2013 in style, which is all to the good. Finishes smooth but with noteworthy energy and grip and lingering minerality. This very precise wine transcends its vintage.

An ultra-fresh, cool and admirably pure nose features notes of white flowers, shellfish, pear, mineral reduction and pungent iodine nuances. There is outstanding volume and intensity to the medium weight plus flavors that deliver beautifully focused power on the palate coating, mineral-driven and hugely persistent finale. Once again if tasted blind it would be all but impossible not to identify this as Chablis and a first-rate example at that!

Pale yellow-green. Spiced apple, crystallized ginger and cool stone on the nose. A supple, stylish midweight with a restrained sweetness to its reticent mineral and spice flavors. Best today on the long, tactile finish, which conveys lovely perfumed lift. This very suave wine should make a great accompaniment for sushi.

A more steely and stony edge to this terroir. There's also a minerally thread to the nose and palate. The fruits are in the citrusy-lime and grapefruit zone. A Very compressed, sleek and chiseled structure. Acid-fueled finish.

Pale green color. Crushed-stone minerality dominates lemon and lime leaf on the nose. Very dry, lemony, saline wine with terrific energy but much more closed today than the Lys and showing less early personality. The penetrating lemon, ginger and crushed stone flavors carry through on a long, bracing yet subtle aftertaste, with a note of under ripe pineapple emerging late. The most austere 2014 to this point, and in need of extended cellaring. Séguier says that this wine has acidity around 4.5 grams per liter, with a low pH between 3.1 and 3.15.

There's richness to the green plum, apple and lemon flavors, with lively acidity emerging on the finish. Intense and long, complemented by a mineral element.

Wine Advocate

The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a light granite, slightly smoky bouquet that is still broody, just as it showed out of barrel last year. The palate is balanced with a light sea influence on the entry, a touch of Golden Delicious apples and fresh pear with a precise, if slightly short, finish.

An expressive, airy and cool nose features notes of stone, sea water, floral aromas and white orchard fruit along with plenty of
mineral reduction nuances. This is exceptionally rich and concentrated yet the medium weight flavors remain light and pure
with absolutely no trace of heaviness on the mouth coating and stunningly persistent finish. This is beautifully refined yet there
is no absence of muscle or punch.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Strongly mineral-driven aromas of lime, lemon cake icing and crushed stone. Very tightly wound, in fact almost austere for the year, offering classic citrus, menthol and mineral flavors that are pure and sharply delineated but not yet expansive. This doesn't yet show the texture or richness of the Lys but should blossom with bottle aging. Harmonious acidity and a note of pineapple give this very promising wine a bracing, focused finish.
