Le Corton 2017

January 2019

92-94 Points

Vinous

The 2017 Le Corton Grand Cru comes from 3.60 hectares at 280 meters above sea level, at the top of the slope, and is usually the last picked. It has an elegant, attractive bouquet of brambly red fruit, burned toast, truffle and a touch of smoke. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, fine tannin, well-judged acidity and a generous, sophisticated, lightly spiced finish. A very refined Le Corton and one of the best crus from Bouchard in 2017. –NM

The aromas are briary and fragrant, offering plenty of red flowers and red berries. The power here is also impressive and there’s a very regal air to the tannins. Long and fine, very transparent and delicate. The exposure and altitude here gives good and slow ripening to high maturity.

The rich, supple and round middle weight flavors are surprisingly forward compared to how this wine is typically structured, all wrapped in an acceptably lingering finish.
