Beaune Clos de la Mousse Monopole 2017

January 2019

90-92 Points

Vinous

This is showing just a little reduction on the nose, yet there is plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with brown spices here that feels well defined. The poised, focused palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a caressing, almost Vosne-like finish that is utterly seductive. –NM

Beaune Clos Saint-Landry Monopole 2017

January 2019

90-92 Points

Vinous

The 2017 Beaune Clos Saint-Landry 1er Cru is a two-hectare monopole that has been planted with Chardonnay since the 13th century. It has a lightly honeyed bouquet of acacia and brioche. The energetic palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity and a chalky finish that exhibits just the right amount of salinity. –NM

Beaune du Château Blanc 2017

January 2019

89-90 Points

Vinous

The 2017 Beaune du Château Blanc 1er Cru comes from 10 hectares over five different Premier Crus. It has a pretty apricot blossom and white peach bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The fresh palate is a little oaky on the entry – just 15% though, and that will be absorbed. The well-defined, commercially savvy finish shows a touch of brioche on the aftertaste. –NM

Beaune Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jésus 2017

January 2019

91-93 Points

Vinous

The 2017 Beaune Les Grèves Vigne de L’Enfant Jesus 1er Cru comes from the 3.91-hectare parcel on the mid-slope, currently undergoing piecemeal replanting. It has a wonderful, expressive bouquet of dark cherries, wild strawberry and crushed stone that is easily the best of Bouchard’s Beaune Premier Crus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin and well-judged acidity, perhaps a little oakier than the Les Teurons but with more depth and precision on the finish. Great potential. –NM

Brut Rosé

January 2015

92

Vinous

Vivid orange-pink. High-toned aromas of fresh red berries, smoky minerals and orange peel, with a hint of buttered toast emerging with air. Spicy raspberry and strawberry flavors are supported by a firm spine of acidity and a refreshingly bitter orange pith nuance. At once silky and bright on the long, penetrating finish, which leaves a sexy rose pastille nuance behind.

Brut Souverain

Vinous

Light gold. Lees-accented orchard and citrus fruit aromas are complicated by sweet butter, iodine and smoky minerals. Dry and expansive on the palate, offering lively pear and melon flavors and a refreshingly bitter touch of orange pith. Ample but lithe brut, with very good finishing punch and repeating smoke and pear qualities.

Chablis Domaine 2014

July 2016

90

Vinous

Oyster-shell reduction and a note of lime on the classic Chablis nose. Dense, juicy and firm, boasting excellent definition to its flavors of oyster shell, lime and white flowers. Penetrating but not aggressive in spite of its firm acidity, finishing with excellent subtle length and grip. This terrific village wine is an exceptional value--but make sure you get the Domaine bottling.

Chablis Grand Cru Bougros "Côte Bouguerots" Domaine 2013

August 2015

93

Vinous

Bright, pale yellow-green. Precise aromas of lemon, lime and oyster shell, plus a note of mineral reduction. In the mouth, a sexy toasty nuance complements the ripe stone fruit and saline mineral flavors. Nicely pliant wine but also boasts very good inner-mouth tension and purity. Finishes tactile and long, showing very little impact of the vintage. Superb.

Chablis Grand Cru Bougros "Côte Bouguerots" Domaine 2014

August 2015

93-95

Vinous

Very pale yellow with a faint green tinge. Lime zest, white flowers and white pepper on the bright, high-pitched nose. Sappy, ripe and substantial, showing sexy sweetness of fruit in a technically very dry wine. Superb acidity and energy here, but not as tightly wound as the Preuses. The full south exposure of the vines gives this wine its amplitude and generosity. As with the regular Bougros, this large-scaled, long wine is not at all hard or austere.
